Tseng resigns from district

West Valley-Mission Community College District Chancellor Rose Tseng announced April 17 she accepted a job with the University of Hawaii. She begins Aug. 1 with the university's Hilo campus.

Tseng, who was a dean at San Jose State University before becoming chancellor at the West Valley-Mission district in 1993, said she wanted to get back to a university setting.

The move ended weeks of rumors that she was planning to resign. Tseng was blamed in recent weeks for the departure of Mission College's president, Michael Rao, who announced his resignation in March. Rao leaves June 30; he is barred from commenting on the situation as a result of a settlement agreement with the district.

The conflict over Rao leaving comes on the heels of last spring's two votes of no confidence Tseng received from the Mission and West Valley faculties.
