Baseball for Kids

Diamond Skills, a baseball program for boys and girls offered by the San Jose Parks Department, will be held April 26, 2-4 p.m., at San Jose PAL Stadium. Call Bob Sorrells at 277-5556.

Fremont Firebirds need coaches

Fremont is looking for a number of coaches for the 1998-99 school year. The Firebirds need coaches for girls' field hockey, girls' volleyball and water polo. Anyone qualified and interested should apply at the Fremont Union High School District, 589 W. Fremont Ave., Sunnyvale, and call Pat Lawson or Phil Kelly at 522-2431.

Coach to Speak

Bill McPherson, a member of the coaching staff of the San Francisco 49ers for 20 years, will be the guest speaker at Bellarmine Prep's annual Alumni Council luncheon on May 6.

McPherson, a 1950 graduate of Bellarmine, is a defensive assistant on the Niners staff. He was a coach for all five 49ers Super Bowl teams.

The cost for the luncheon is $15 and it is open to the public. An 11:30 a.m. social will be followed by the noon lunch. Reservations are required.

Coaches Needed

Los Gatos High School is looking for a number of coaches for the 1998-99 school year. The Wildcats need coaches for wrestling, cross country, track, girls' water polo and swimming. Anyone interested should call Los Gatos athletic director Butch Cattolico at 354-2730.

Men's Basketball

The Saratoga Recreation Department is now accepting team registrations for the up-coming spring 35-plus men's basketball league. Games are played Saturday mornings at Saratoga High School, and the season begins April 25. For a manager's packet, call 868-1248.

World Title Fight

IBF Featherweight World Champion Hector Lizarraga of San Jose will take on challenger Manuel Medina in the first-ever world championship fight to be held at the San Jose Arena.

The Garden City Boxing Club card, set for April 24, will include three championship fights and will also feature WBU junior featherweight champion Carlos Navarro.
