Saratogan honored for his heroism
Matthew Pollard of Saratoga, a senior at Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, has been honored by the mayor of San Luis Obispo for heroism in coming to the aid of victims of a car accident.
In the early morning hours of March 7, roommates Pollard and Ryan Fell of Los Altos were awakened by the sound of a car crash. They called 911 and then ran toward the accident.
Pollard and Fell helped the two crash victims to safety, away from the wreck that had burst into flames.
Tree-planting ceremony honors Dick Wood
A tree will be planted in honor of Dick Wood, 1995 Saratoga Citizen of the Year, on Friday, April 25, at 10 a.m. in front of the Saratoga Community Library, Saratoga and Fruitvale avenues.
Mayor Gillian Moran will preside over the ceremony. The oak tree to be planted has been donated by the Christensen Nursery Company.
GGG sponsors a bond issue forum
The Saratoga Good Government Group is sponsoring a community forum on the Saratoga Elementary School District's Bond Measure D. The meeting will be held Monday, April 28, at 7:15 p.m. in the community room at the Saratoga Library.
Stephanie Petrossi, campaign area coordinator and president of the Saratoga Union School District Board of Trustees, and Cindy Ruby, also a school board member, will present information on the bond measure, which will be on the June ballot. There will be a question-and-answer period.

New members named to Hakone board
Some new faces have appeared on the Hakone Foundation Board of Directors. Nancy Lesser, an office manager at a local medical office, and Ronald Duffin, a retired supervisor at Lockheed Martin, have been appointed to the board.
Saratoga Woods forms emergency team
The Saratoga Woods neighborhood has formed an emergency preparedness team and passed out surveys to determine the location of doctors, ham radio operators and the like in the area.
SWEPT plans to maintain a confidential database of information so that the right people, equipment and supplies can be found quickly in an emergency, says spokeswoman Deborah Ellis.
