      Vikings top the Jaguars in men's baseball

      Matt Troedson (Santa Teresa) had four hits to lead the West Valley Community College baseball team to a 10-6 win over San Jose City College last weekend.

      Noah Sweeters (Los Gatos) picked up the mound win for the Vikings, evening his season record at 2-2. The Vikes are now 12-9 in the Coast Conference and 23-13 for the year.

      West Valley had opened the week with a 12-4 win over Mission College. Ryan Becks (Santa Teresa) was the winning pitcher, pushing his record to 9-2, and he helped his cause with a pair of singles.

      Nick Dalis (Bellarmine) had two hits for the Vikings, and Josh Tanner and Nick Rosa ripped three each. Isaac Yacap (Milpitas) had two hits to drive in four runs.

      Troy Marcyes (Leigh) drove in a pair of runs for the Saints.

      Jeff Canter (Fremont) homered and Troedson had three hits, but West Valley lost a tight 7-6 nod to Ohlone.

      Jaguars top the Vikings in women's softball

      It was the battle of the best in the Coast Conference, and the San Jose City College women's softball team pulled out a thrilling 3-2 win over West Valley Community College.

      Jessica Rose (Leigh) tossed a five-hitter to claim the win that pushed the Jaguars to 13-1 in conference play. West Valley slipped to 13-1 with the loss.

      West Valley had beaten Hartnell 12-0 on a two-hit shutout by Jennifer Martin. Shannon Sullivan (Los Gatos) singled and tripled, and Sarah Dudley (Willow Glen) had two hits to drive in a pair of runs in the win. Kittie Jones drove home two runs, and Kimberly Lax had two hits.

      Men's 35-plus basketball

      The Saratoga men's 35-plus spring basketball season begins April 26, and sign-ups are now being accepted for the 10-game season. Games are played Saturday mornings at West Valley Community College. Players must have been born before April 26, 1962. For more information, call 868-1234.
