Evans benefit

Be there, or be square!

That's what they're saying about the April 27 benefit show at the Christopher Ranch in Gilroy.

It promises to be a good show for a good cause, with "Big Bop and the Choppers" and "Sha-Boom" headlining the event that's a fundraiser for the Brent Evans Trust.

Evans is the San Jose State University football player who was stricken with a brain tumor last fall.

Admission is $15, and there will be a silent auction that features sports items from Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Bill Walsh, Walter Payton, the Oakland Raiders, the Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions and more.

Football signups

The Campbell-Saratoga Youth Football organization is holding signups for the 1996 fall season. Signups will be accepted for both football players and cheerleaders, and the organization is also looking for coaches. For more information, call 327-9510.

Run to the Stars

The annual Run to the Stars returns to Christa McAuliffe Elementary School in Saratoga on April 28. The 3K race begins at 8:30 a.m. with the 8K race to begin at 9 a.m. The registration fee is $17 on race day. Race-day registration begins at 7 a.m. For more information, call 732-9486.

Pop Warner signups

The Los Gatos Pop Warner Football Association will hold final spring signups for Los Gatos and Saratoga youth for the fall season on April 27, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Los Gatos High School Teen Center.

Making a special appearance at the football registration will be the cheerleaders from the championship San Jose SaberCats indoor football team. The SaberCat cheerleaders will appear from noon to 1 p.m., performing routines and handing out autographed pictures.

Registration will be for youngsters ages 8-14 interested in playing football or becoming cheerleaders in the fall. The registration fee is $85 for football and $50 for cheeerleading. For information, call 270-1443.
