Bay Area group offering rebate for old mowers
On April 28, starting at 8 a.m., the Bay Area Air Quality Management District will hold a lawnmower buy-back day. The group will offer a $100 rebate voucher for "old, dirty, gas-guzzling" lawnmowers; participants can redeem the voucher for either a $99 Black & Decker corded lawnmower, or a $279 cordless cutter. Residents can bring their lawnmowers to participating Home Depot stores in Gilroy, Sunnyvale and San Jose. For more information, call 415.749.4791, or log onto www.baaqmd.gov.
Building group to continue working on local project
The organization Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley, formerly Christmas in April, will continue rebuilding a house for mentally disabled residents on Vanderbilt Avenue. The group began replacing everything from fencing to medicine cabinets at the eight-room house last weekend.
The Saratoga project, along with another refurbishment on Saratoga Avenue just over the San Jose line, is part of a 34-home rehabilitation effort throughout the valley.
Rebuilding Together still needs volunteers, especially skilled workers, to help with the Saratoga-area projects on April 28.
