    Rainey wins CCS scholarship

    Meghan Kirby-McFarland and Russ Martin of Los Gatos and Kate Rainey of Prospect were were selected as Central Coast Section Scholar Athlete of the Year scholarship winners.

    Kirby-McFarland, a track and field star for the Wildcats, was named the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and will be presented a $1,500 scholarship.

    Martin, a cross country and track standout for the Cats, and Rainey, a field hockey sensation for the Panthers, will each win $300 scholarships.

    Awards will be presented on April 26, 8 a.m., at ceremonies at the Los Gatos Lodge.

    Sports Writing Scholarship

    The Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame has announced its annual Art Rosenbaum High School Sports Writing Scholarship program for high school juniors and seniors.

    The Hall of Fame, in conjunction with the Saints and Sinners, will award a $2,500 scholarship for the best sports story by a high school junior or senior that appeared in their school publication, $1,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place.

    Asthma Scholarships

    High school scholar-athletes who have competed despite facing the challenge of asthma are eligible for scholarships through the "Will to Win" scholarship program.

    The program, in its 17th year, grants $35,000 in scholarships to 10 high school seniors, with the grand prize winner claiming a $10,000 award.

    Scholarship applications are available by calling the "Will to Win" hotline at 1.800.558.7305. The deadline for entries is April 30.
