Special Olympics seeks a few good men and women
The Northern California/ Santa Clara County branch of the Special Olympics is looking for adults of all ages to serve as volunteers during an upcoming track and field meet. Many special-needs athletes participate in the daylong event and simply need people to chaperone them and cheer them on.
An orientation meeting takes place on May 8, at 7 p.m. at 5730 Chambertin Drive in San Jose. Call 408.267.2734, or visit www.sonc.org/sccso on the Internet.
Genealogy is the meeting topic for Library Friends
The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries invites the community to join them for a program and meeting on May 7, at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of the Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave. This is the last time the Friends will meet in the Saratoga Library before it is closed for major expansion and renovations.
Orvis Perry, who has 40 years of experience in genealogy and serves as director of the San Jose Family History Center, will teach attendees how to use the various resources at the center. Perry will be joined by Leslie Kipper, a training supervisor for the center. The Family History Center is affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which maintains many resources on genealogy.
At the meeting, the Friends will also introduce recently elected directors and officers for the new fiscal year, which begins on July 1.
