National Charity League recognizes 15 local girls

The Los Gatos-Saratoga Chapter of the National Charity League honored 15 local teenagers in March at Senior Presents 2000, an annual gathering held this year at the Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara.

To be eligible for recognition, girls must meet a required number of volunteer hours in specific philanthropies; they must also participate in League functions.

The Class of 2000, which included the 15 girls, all of whom live in Saratoga, fulfilled many of their required hours volunteering for the Emergency Housing Consortium. Their activities there included preparing and serving meals at the EHC's reception center at the Little Orchard facility, and providing child care and tutoring for the children housed there.

Other favored activities included bagging groceries, sorting clothes and tutoring at Sacred Heart Community Services in San Jose. Working at the Nike Animal Rescue Foundation's pet adoption fairs and helping at annual community events, such as Eastfield Ming Quong's Strawberry Festival and the Special Olympics' Track & Field Day were also favored activities.

All of the Saratoga girls are seniors at Saratoga High School except for Roth, Schneider and Leach, who are seniors at Valley Christian, Menlo and Archbishop Mitty high schools, respectively.

The National Charity League is a national mother-daughter organization that emphasizes three areas of growth for young women: philanthropic, social and cultural.
