    SHS seniors become Merit scholar finalists

    Fifteen SHS seniors are finalists in the 2000 competition for merit scholarship awards. The students represent about half of the top one percent of American high school seniors. They are considered for three types of scholarships: $2,000 National Merit Scholarships, corporate scholarships and college-sponsored scholarships.

    The National Merit finalists include: Chanson Chang, James Chao, Patrick Chen, Joanna Mimi Choi, Fahrettin Olcay Cirit, Andrew Hollenhorst, Mark Hsu, Diane Huang, Jayanth Iyengar, Wen Lin, Renee Ng, Adrienne Osborne, Robert Pfeifer, Eric Shan, Laura Shih, Moez Shivji, Joanne Sprague and Jenny Yoo.

    Saratogans make dean's lists across the country

    Saratoga students have made the dean's lists at their respective colleges across the country for their academic achievements in the fall term.

    The scholars include Angela Anne Gavin of Monte Sereno at the University of San Francisco, Mark D. Epes, Evanna P. Miloglav, Lynna Jamison and Nicole M. Behnke at the University of San Diego and Michael Ya-Wei Lu and Kevin Sheu at Johns Hopkins University in Maryland

    Foothill School Draft EIR open to public comment

    A draft Environmental Impact Report for the proposed expansion of Foothill School is available to the public at the SUSD district office and on the district website at www.susd.k12.ca.us. As part of the Saratoga Union School district modernization program funded by measure D, the district is proposing to improve and expand the existing school facilities at Foothill School.

    A 45-day public review period for the draft EIR opened on March 30, and will close May 15. Written comments on the draft EIR should be sent to the District office at 20460 Forest Hills Drive, Saratoga, CA 95070, during the comment period.

    The SUSD will hold a public meeting to receive comments on the Draft EIR on May 9, at 7:30 p.m. at the district office.

    Dean's list includes two from Saratoga

    Two Saratoga residents were named to the UC-Santa Barbara dean's list for their academic achievement during the winter quarter. This honor is earned by students who attain a GPA of at least 3.75 while taking at least 12 college credits in the college of Letters and Science or a GPA of 3.50 in the College of Engineering.

    Karen Grus studies business economics and psychology and Jane Tsai studies computer science.
