    Jewelry exhibit will sparkle at Gallery Saratoga

    Throughout May, Gallery Saratoga is exhibiting the works of three jewelry artists: Joyce Chadderdon, Leslie Cummins-Clarkson and Stephanie North. The show features a display of various techniques the artists use, including lost wax casting, repousse, anodizing, fold-forming, hollow forms fabrication and the use of found objects.

    The public is invited to an artists' reception on May 13, from 1 to 5 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gallery Saratoga is at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3. For more information, call 408.867.0458.

    Walden West Outdoor School plans anniversary

    Walden West Outdoor School, once known as Redwood Glen, invites the public to its 50th anniversary celebration on May 20, from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Activities for the entire family include hiking, field sports, nature games, arts and crafts, storytelling, a deli-lunch buffet, barbecue dinner, campfire program, night hikes and stargazing.

    Walden West, at 15555 Sanborn Road, is a 35-acre residential outdoor school. Operated by the Santa Clara County Office of Education, it provides fifth-and-sixth graders from throughout the county with weeklong, educational camping experiences. Summertime day camps are also available.

    Reading classes coming to Saratoga and Los Gatos

    The Los Gatos-Saratoga Department of Community Education and Recreation again offers a series of reading enrichment programs for people of all ages groups, from four-year-olds to adults. Sessions run throughout the summer.

    The children's classes focus on developing phonics and reading comprehension skills. Programs for older students and adults focus on developing reading speed and fluency and improving comprehension, retention, vocabulary and study skills. Instructors are provided by the Institute of Reading Development.
