Family Daze: Walk-A-Thon

    Obituaries

    Roberta Worden

Longtime Saratogan Roberta G. "Bobbie" Worden died April 11 of congestive heart failure. She was 89.

Born May 18, 1909, in Decatur, Ga., Worden lived in Saratoga since 1928. A graduate of Los Gatos High School, she was an active member of the community and was known by her friends for her honest, "tell it like it is" personality.

An avid traveler, she enjoyed trips to Peru, the Mediterranean, Europe, Mexico, Asia, Alaska and Kenya. She also cruised down the Amazon river. In later years, she never missed going on jaunts to Reno, sponsored by Sons in Retirement. She also participated in Saratoga Senior Center activities, was a 50-year member of the Foothill Club and supported the Saratoga Historical Society and Pioneers.

When her sons were school-age, she participated in the PTA at Saratoga Grammar School, now Saratoga School on Oak Street.

Worden's late husband, Wilbur, was an active volunteer firefighter with the city of Saratoga for more than 60 years and was honored posthumously by the "Willie Award," which is presented annually to an outstanding firefighter based on the votes of his or her peers. Worden also enjoyed participating in functions of the Firemen's Auxiliary.

Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Ron and Barbara Worden of El Macero; son Terry Worden of Saratoga; grandchildren Stephen of Sacramento, Susan of Boise, Idaho and Charlotte of Tracy; and great-grandchildren Andrew and Sophie.

Donations may be made to the Saratoga Historical Society or the American Heart Association.

    Sandria Johnson

Saratoga resident Sandria Lee "Sandy" Johnson died March 24 at the age of 55.

A Bay Area native, Johnson was born May 26, 1943, in San Francisco. According to her family, she was more than just a homemaker: "she was a mother for all those who needed nurturing [by] providing unconditional love, support, kindness and comfort. Her home was a haven of love for all."

Survivors include husband Jerry Johnson of Saratoga; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Cathy Williams and Bill and Nanci Williams; daughter Mary Johnson; and grandchildren Andrew Branscum and Mikayla Williams.

Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made to Mid-Peninsula Hospice, 65 El Camino Real, Menlo Park, 94025.
