    Seeking former football all-stars

It was the summer of 1974 when a football game called the Santa Clara County All-Star Bowl debuted on the turf at San Jose State's Spartan Stadium.

Since that time, it has grown to become a summer classic for high school football all-stars, and the event, now known as the Charlie Wedemeyer All-Star Football Game, returns this summer for its 25th anniversary game.

To celebrate, game organizers--the Almaden Valley Rotary Club--invite former all-star players and coaches to attend the game, set for Friday, July 23, at Spartan Stadium.

For information, and for former players and coaches to reserve their place at the event, write to All-Star Events, P.O. Box 20933, San Jose 95160, or send a fax to 268-2960.

    Adult Sports

The Saratoga Recreation Department is registering teams for the spring coed and the spring/summer men's softball league seasons, and for the spring season men's 35-plus basketball.

Coed teams play on Tuesdays and Thursdays for seven weeks, and men's "D" teams play on Mondays and Wednesdays for 14 weeks. Games are played at El Quito Park.

The basketball season begins June 24, with games played on Saturday mornings at West Valley Community College. The cost is $535 per team, and all players must have been born prior to June 24, 1964.

For a manager's packet, or for information, call 868-1248.

    Fall Soccer

The Saratoga AYSO will hold registration at Argonaut School for the upcoming fall soccer season on May 1, May 15 and July 11, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. each day. There will also be a special registration on April 24, 9:30 a.m.-noon, for coaches, assistant coaches and referees).

The league will work with MLS Camps to offer youth soccer camps Aug. 9-13 and Aug. 23-27, 9 a.m.-noon each day, at Congress Springs Park.

Contact the league's Web site at www.saratoga-ayso.org or call 257-AYSO.
