Saratoga NewsNews BriefsLWV to host two forums The League of Women Voters of Los Gatos, Saratoga and Monte Sereno will hold two forums in May in anticipation of the statewide primaries on June 2. The first forum is scheduled for Tuesday, May 5, and will introduce all the candidates who are running for the position of Santa Clara County sheriff. The second forum will be Wednesday, May 13, and will address the pros and cons of the nine statewide ballot propositions facing California voters. Both forums will be from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., in the community room of the Saratoga Community Library, located at the corner of Saratoga and Fruitvale avenues. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization. A golden chance to walk a mile The annual Walk a Golden Mile, a fundraiser for the Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council, is scheduled to take place Friday, May 8, with a bus ride to San Francisco, a walk over the Golden Gate Bridge and lunch in Sausalito. To be eligible, each participant must raise a minimum of $30 in pledges from family, friends or businesses. Prizes will be awarded to the three walkers who garner the most pledges. Prizes include a vacation stay at the Rio Del Mar, dinners from Bella Saratoga and a gift certificate from Longs Drugs. For more information, call the Saratoga Senior Center at 868-1257. Chamber hosts a blood drive The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce is out for blood--blood donations, that is, for a community blood drive. On Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a bloodmobile from the Stanford Medical School Blood Center will be parked in front of Colour Shoppe Draperies and Interiors at 12361 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, be between the ages of 17 and 70 and be free of any cold or flu symptoms. Donors should eat within six hours prior to giving blood and drink plenty of fluids before and after donating.
