Hancock speaks

John Hancock, head football coach at West Valley Community College, will be the guest speaker at a reception and dinner hosted by the Los Gatos Pop Warner Football Association on May 15, 6:30 p.m., at the Los Gatos History Club.

The event is open to the public, and the cost is $18 per person. For more information, call Lew Cramer at 358-9992.

Los Gatos Pop Warner Football has also announced that Laura Warmerhoven, Benjamin Miller and Buckley Wright were named second-team Academic All-Americans by Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. The youngsters were honored for their outstanding efforts in the classroom, on the field and in various community projects.

Falcons win a pair

The Saratoga boys' volleyball team won a pair of matches last week to improve to 10-0 in the Santa Teresa Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The Falcons, now 10-2 for the year, whipped Leigh 5-15, 15-8, 15-12, 15-12 and outlasted Willow Glen 15-0, 15-7, 12-15, 9-15, 15-12.

In other Santa Teresa Division action, Prospect lost to Leigh 14-16, 15-1, 15-4, 15-10, then to Piedmont Hills 15-13, 15-12, 15-7, and Westmont fell to Lincoln 15-7, 15-13, 15-13. The Panthers are 1-9 in the division, and the Warriors are 0-8.

Coaches Needed

Los Gatos is looking for a number of coaches for the 1998-99 school year. The Wildcats need coaches for wrestling, cross-country, track, girls' water polo and swimming. Anyone qualified and interested should call Los Gatos athletic director Butch Cattolico at 354-2730.

49ers coach to speak

Bill McPherson, a member of the coaching staff of the San Francisco 49ers for 20 years, will be the guest speaker at Bellarmine Prep's annual Alumni Council luncheon on May 6.

McPherson, a 1950 graduate of Bellarmine, is a defensive assistant on the Niners staff. He was a coach for all five 49ers Super Bowl teams.

The cost for the luncheon is $15, and it is open to the public. An 11:30 a.m. social will be followed by the noon lunch. Reservations are required.
