      Saratoga High School stages boosters auction

      The Saratoga High School Athletic Booster Club will hold its 17th annual fundraising auction on Sunday, May 18, at the Saratoga Country Club.

      The event begins at 2 p.m. with a limousine shuttle from the high school parking lot to the country club for hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and a silent auction. The vintage wine auction begins at 3:45 p.m., and this year honors the late Phil Hyde. Dinner and another auction will follow. Auction items include sports and collector memorabilia, tickets to local sporting, musical and theater events and trips.

      All proceeds go toward promoting and funding boys' and girls' athletic activities at Saratoga High School and Redwood Middle School. This includes the purchase of equipment and uniforms, as well as funding the assistant coaches and athletic trainer.

      Tickets are $75 each.

      The Booster Club is seeking items for auction as well as cash contributions. For tickets, call the school office at 867-35411.

      Friends of Libraries will install officers

      Carolyn King will be installed as president of the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries on May 5 at 10 a.m. in the community room of the Saratoga Library.

      Others on the slate are Fran Krezek, first vice president, programs; Janet McLaughlin, second vice president, public relations; Jim Givins, third vice president, membership; Ruth Gipstein, secretary; and Bill Mcdonnal, treasurer. Bernice Giansiracusa is past president.

      Les Landin and the Skillet Family will provide the entertainment.

      Soroptimist Club honors Dr. Fox

      Dr. Marchelle Fox, the first woman president of West Valley College, will be honored May 7 by the Soroptimist International of Los Gatos-Saratoga.

      Dr. Fox will receive Soroptimist International's "Woman of Distinction" award during an 11:30 a.m. lunch at the Los Gatos Lodge, 50 Los Gatos-Saratoga Road.
