Sheriff's Report
Vandalism--April 21, 11:50 a.m. on Springer Avenue. The victim said that his car had been egged sometime between 7 p.m. on April 20 and 9:30 a.m. on April 21. He then saw that several areas of his garage had been egged. He had no suspect information. There was no damage realized at the time of the report.
Grand Theft, Electric Baseball Pitching Machine--April 17, 1 p.m. on Glenbrae Avenue. Someone cut the hasp on the gate to a cyclone fence enclosure that housed a $1,833 ATEC Casey Pro automatic electric pitching machine. The guilty party pried open a second lock and took the pitching machine, a rack and a can of special balls. There were no latent fingerprints, footprints or tire marks. The officer put the two broken locks into evidence. There are no known suspects.
Reckless Driving, Evading, Failure to Yield--April 17, 2:30 a.m. on Highway 85. The officer saw the suspect travel 102 mph southbound on Highway 85. The driver failed to yield to the officer's emergency lights and siren for about 1 1/2 miles. The passenger in the front seat had a bottle of Johnny Walker whiskey on his lap. The officer booked the driver into the main jail and cited and released the passenger for possessing an open or partially-empty container of alcohol. The driver's car was towed.
Unconfined Dog--April 16, 7:05 p.m. on Reagan Lane. The suspect's dog chased the reporting party from his driveway. After two officers found and contained the dog, they used the identification tags on the dog to find and contact the owner. The owner said the garage had been left open and that the dog and another dog had escaped.
Petty Theft of Mail--April 16, 10 a.m. on Russell Lane. The victim said she had placed her mail in her mailbox on March 11 at about 6 a.m. The mail carrier normally picks up the mail at 2 p.m. The victim received her bank statement on April 15 and found that the two checks she had placed in her mailbox on March 11 had been altered and cashed.
Drunk in Public--April 14, 1:05 a.m. on Quito Road. An officer responded to a domestic dispute at Swarthmore Drive. Deputies at the scene said that before the officer arrived, one of the subjects involved in the dispute had left on foot. A deputy found her and detained her at the Bucknall and Quito intersection. The officer saw that the subject displayed the symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol and arrested her.
Theft by Credit Card--April 12, 3:25 p.m. on Crisp Avenue. The victim checked his credit card statement online and found several charges that he didn't make, which totaled $948.48. He notified his credit card company and learned that a charge on his account came from San Jose Towing. He called the towing company and learned the plate on the car. Law enforcement arrested the suspect for some of the theft amount and for outstanding warrants.
Grand Theft--April 11, 12 p.m. on Fruitvale Avenue. The victim told the two officers who responded that her housekeeper stole a five-inch mirror, a gold coin and two Social Security checks, one worth $579. The officers saw that the house was in such disarray that it would be hard to find where anything was. They found no evidence that anyone had stolen the property. A stop payment was placed on the checks, and the victim was issued new checks.
