Annual celebration aids CUSD school programs

Gala '96, the Cupertino Union School District's 12th spring celebration of educational excellence, will be held Saturday, May 18 at the headquarters of Tandem Computers in Cupertino.

Tandem is hosting the affair, a benefit for the Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation, and Roel Pieper, Tandem's new president and CEO, is honorary chairman.

Saratoga families who live within the school-district boundaries are invited to attend.

Last year's Gala raised more than $50,000 for school programs. A substantial donation from Tandem and donations from other business and corporate supporters will underwrite all major expenses.

Gala '96 will follow the theme "Oil Baron's Ball," to bring a western flavor to the black-tie party. In addition to the traditional buffet supper, there will be live and silent auctions, casino entertainment, line dancing, bronc roping and a "strike it rich" wheel under a large tent erected at Tandem.

For an invitation, call the Cupertino Educational Endowment Foundation, 252-3000. Invitations are also available at Blue Hills Elementary School and Miller and Kennedy Junior High schools.
