Herb Exchange

Miyuki Sakamoto, who owns a restaurant in Japan and uses herbs in cooking, traveled to Saratoga to learn about growing herbs from Virginia and Louis Saso of Saratoga, owners of Saso Herb Gardens. She discovered the Saratoga garden in a book on herb gardens throughout the world, done by a Japanese photographer. Sakamoto learned how to prepare soil, propagate plants and identify herbs. The Sasos have 1,000 different plants growing on one acre around their house at 14625 Fruitvale Ave. and have operated the herb garden in Saratoga since 1974. They sell plants from April to September.
