Saratoga launches adopt-a-tree program

The city launched its Adopt-A-Tree program on April 19 with the planting of a 15-gallon Coast Live Oak tree at the corner of Lomita Avenue and Aloha Street.

This program is meant to encourage volunteer efforts in planting and maintaining trees. The city agrees with an individual or group to purchase and help plant a tree; in return the adopting party cares for it for at least three years. This includes watering the tree regularly; monitoring the tree's health and reporting any problems to the city; keeping it properly mulched; adding or removing stakes from the tree; and generally providing all supplies and equipment to keep it in good health. Anyone interested can call Bob Rizzo at 867-3438 for more information.

Measure G law takes effect May 3

After months of rancorous debate, Measure G will officially take effect on May 3. That will mark the end of the 10-day waiting period following the City Council's unanimous passage of the resolution declaring the results of the Measure G election at its April 23 meeting.

That was the first meeting since April 18, when the city received from the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters the official precinct-by-precinct breakdown of votes cast on Measure G in the March 26 election. The approved resolution reflects the 5,768 yes and 4,865 no votes cast for Measure G and certifies that Measure G has been inserted into the Saratoga General Plan.
