A kaleidoscope of color comes to Gallery Saratoga

During the month of May, Gallery Saratoga's featured artist, Renata Radcliffe, presents an exhibition titled "Kaleidoscope." The show consists of landscapes, floral themes and animals, all painted on various types of silk backgrounds. Although she now devotes herself strictly to silk paintings, she previously has created and taught oil paintings, collage and Chinese brush paintings.

An artist's reception with refreshments takes place on May 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is welcome. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The gallery is closed on Mondays. For more information, call 408.867.0458, or visit http://www.gallerysaratoga.com on the Internet.

Saratogan talks at horticultural society meeting

Anne Cunningham of Saratoga will be the guest speaker at the May 9 meeting of the Western Horticultural Society, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room at Loyola School, 770 Berry Ave. in Los Altos.

Her topic is "Crystal Palaces: Garden Conservatories of the United States." She will show pictures of their architecture and the collections they contain, and will share maintenance and growing tips.

There is no charge to attend, and everyone is welcome. The meeting also includes a plant discussion and a plant raffle. Call 650.327.9522.

Paid and voluntary positions available for summer camps

The Saratoga Recreation Department has openings available for energetic and friendly people who would like to work as recreation leaders at various summer day camps. The department is also looking for volunteers to assist at these camps. Volunteers must have completed the eighth grade, must attend training sessions and commit to at least two one-week camps of their choices. Serving as a volunteer often stands the individual in good stead for future paid positions with the Recreation Department.

For more information about either paid or volunteer positions, call Lori Burns at 408.868.1252.
