Help clean up city's Wildcat Creek May 20

National River Clean up Day 2000, sponsored by the Santa Clara Valley Water District, is May 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. Saratoga's Parks and Recreation commissioners will lead the effort to clean up Wildcat Creek.

On May 20, come with friends or family and a lot of energy to Saratoga Community Center on Allendale Avenue. Wear long pants, a long sleeve shirt, sturdy shoes, gloves and sunscreen. Call 408.256.2607 x 2238 for more information.

In Los Gatos on the same day, volunteers will clean up Lenihan Dam at Lexington Reservoir. For directions and a map, visit www.scvwd.dst.ca.us/adoptc/crkconn.htm.

    HomeTown Celebration participants are needed

Magicians, puppeteer performers and nonprofit organizations that want to sell items, food or hand out information are invited to participate in the fifth annual Saratoga HomeTown Celebration at Villa Montalvo on July 4, from noon to 5 p.m.

The Saratoga Lions Club is coordinating the event. Those interested can call Tat Blesch at 408.867.9571, or George Bunyard at 408.255.3594 for more information.

BootCamp new season starts on May 1 at WVC

Community BootCamp, the group fitness program run by Cupertino's TimeOut Services Inc., will start up in Saratoga on May 1, at West Valley College's track located above the tennis courts. The workouts are designed for all ages, sizes and fitness levels.

"We've had people all the way from 6 years old to 82," said Remy Crawford, office manager at TimeOut.

The group meets Monday through Friday at 6 a.m. for an hour. There are five weeks in all, and newcomers are welcome at any time.

The cost is $225 for the entire session of 25 classes. Call the office and preregister at 1.800.926.6552. Or visit www.timeoutservices.com on the web. Crawford suggests bringing a mat or a towel, a water bottle and running shoes or cross trainers.
