    Water Works at City Hall

Artist Heather Donaldson, designed and created this water sculpture, which was installed in Saratoga's City Hall courtyard March 10. The Saratoga Rotary Club paid for the fountain and its installation. The sculpture is a slate cube placed on river rocks. It rests on a steel grid that covers the recirculating pipes, and water flows over the whole piece. It uses nonpotable water. Donaldson's works can be found in yards and gardens in Saratoga and Los Gatos and throughout the Bay Area.

    There's an earthquake at WVC

The San Jose Earthquakes have returned to West Valley College to practice during their new season. The team used WVC in 1997 and 1998 but moved to the Morgan Hill Soccer complex last season. The professional team is on the WVC soccer field on the east side of the campus most mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. 'The number one reason we chose this location is for the quality of facility,' said Lynne Meterparel, Earthquakes general manager. 'The field has the best of both worlds--a fenced in area for the team to practice in with a viewing area for anyone that comes to watch. It is a perfect facility for us.' The team plays its games at Spartan Stadium at San Jose State University. The season runs from late March through September, with playoffs in October.
