David Yin earns an Eagle rank

David Yin, a junior at Saratoga High School, earned the highest honor in the Boy Scouts of America--the Eagle Award--this January, following more than five years in the Scouting movement and more than 25 merit badges and various other honors.

A member of Troop 452, David's favorite aspect of Boy Scouting is the enjoyment of nature. He also appreciates the leadership and survival skills he has learned. Over the years, he has served as patrol leader, senior patrol leader and troop guide. He now holds the title of Junior Assistant Scoutmaster in his troop.

For his Eagle Scout community service project, David organized and took part in the building of two new benches and refurbishing of six old ones on the SHS campus. Between planning the project, obtaining materials, recruiting Scouts and volunteers to help and working on the benches, the project involved more than 300 hours.

David participates in the SHS's chapters of the California Scholastic Federation and the Key Club. He is also a member of the school's speech and debate team and runs cross country and track.
