Council gets earful, changes ordinance
For the first time, the Saratoga City Council heard an earful from residents opposed to the city's new ordinance that will force Saratogans who use septic systems onto available public sewer lines.
Despite the outcry, the council went ahead April 27 in approving changes to the ordinance, which clarify some of the language in it.
The ordinance will be read again at the next council meeting and adopted, and will go into effect in mid-June. From then, residents will have up to five years to comply, unless they can show proof of financial hardship.
Some of the changes to the text of the code include clarifying who is affected by the ordinance. Now, it's clear that those within 200 feet of an available sewer line will have to connect to it.
The code also states that residents must connect before selling their property.
Celebration needs entertainment
The Saratoga Home Town July 4 Celebration Committee is looking for entertainment and community organizations to take part in this year's festival.
The committee is holding a planning meeting May 12 at Saratoga City Hall at 3:30pm, and is encouraging those wanting to participate to attend.
Community organizations are allowed to sell items or to promote their not-for-profit groups.
The commission is looking for children's entertainers with experience making balloon animals, painting faces and puppeteering.

Nominate a good citizen for award
The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce wants to hear from residents who know someone that should be considered Citizen of the Year. To receive the award, the Chamber says a resident should have given unselfishly to the community.
Nominations are being accepted for the annual award, which will be given at a public dinner on Thursday, June 17.
Applications are available from the Chamber office, 20460 Saratoga-Los Gatos Rd., in Saratoga. For more information, call 867-0753.
