Obituary
Stanley Johnson
Following a long illness, Dr. Stanley L. Johnson--better known to his many patients in the Los Gatos and Saratoga areas as "Dr. Stan"--died in his Saratoga home April 13 at the age of 73.
A native of Nebraska, Johnson graduated from the University of Nebraska, where he earned an undergraduate degree in science and a doctorate in medicine. In 1952, he and his wife, Harriet, moved to the Bay Area, where he completed an internship and began a surgical residency at Highland Hospital in Oakland.
In 1955, Johnson joined the U.S. Air Force and served as chief of surgery at both Keflavic AFB hospital in Iceland and West Palm Beach AFB in Florida. In 1958, he returned to Highland Hospital and finished his residency. The Johnson family settled in Los Gatos in 1960, where Johnson began the general surgery practice he maintained for 30 years. The Johnsons later moved to Saratoga.
Johnson was an accomplished pianist and an avid photographer. He also enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles, jogging, playing bridge and golf, following Nebraska football games and learning the ways of the computer. He also had a love of nature, which he shared with his family on hiking, skiing and rafting trips.
Survivors include wife Harriet Johnson of Saratoga; daughters Kathy Johnson of Seattle, Wash., and Sue Johnson of Truckee; son Scott Johnson of Boulder, Colo.; and granddaughters Sarah and Eva Johnson.
Private memorial services have been held; a memorial celebration of life for friends and colleagues will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1150 S. Bascom Ave., Suite 7-A, San Jose, 95128.
