    Shocking Discovery

Kindergartner Parth Kejriwal, 5, gets a firsthand look at how batteries work. At Foothill Elementary School's annual science fair, people came to look at students' voluntary projects, which they created in order to learn about the scientific process. Projects varied from altering the color of a showerhead to affect water temperature to discovering why ships float to finding out why a rotting banana in a soda container will blow up a balloon.

    Miniature Town

Students in Sherri Wiesner's first-grade class at Saratoga Elementary School, (from left) Preston Schneider, Kate Bellotti and Neil Prasad, helped their classmates build a model of a town to learn about city planning. The students used milk cartons for houses, shoeboxes for stores and sticks with moss on them for trees.
