Watkins wins
Kelly Watkins of Saratoga was named the Venus "Ultimate Soccer Goddess" when she attended a soccer game against the San Jose CyberRays and Boston Breakers on April 13.
Watkins, 11, was honored during halftime ceremonies at Spartan Stadium after winning a special drawing sponsored by Gillette for Women.
Irish tourney
The sixth annual Irish American Heritage Society (IAHS) Golf Tournament will be held on May 20 at the Almaden Golf and Country Club.
Saratoga's Deirdre Gallagher, a former tutor for Bing Crosby's children, is a member of the organizing committee for the IAHS tournament, which has raised nearly $500,000 for scholarships, youth programs and economic development throughout Ireland.

Senior tennis
Teams from Courtside, Saratoga and Rinconada Hills finished among the leaders at the USA Senior League Tennis Sectional Championships of Northern California held May 3-4 in Fresno. The tournament is for players over age 50.
Courtside won the men's 4.0 title to secure a berth in the USA Senior League Nationals.
Another Courtside team finished fourth in the women's 4.0 division. Rinconada Hills was second in the women's 4.5 class, and Saratoga clinched fourth in the men's 4.5 division.
Softball sign-ups
The Saratoga Recreation Department is currently holding registration for the summer men's softball league. Men's "D" league teams play Mondays and Wednesdays for 10 weeks beginning June 3. For a manager's packet, call 408.868.1248.
Saratoga AYSO
The Saratoga AYSO Soccer League has announced registration dates for the 2002 season. All registrations are held at Redwood Middle School.
Early registration for all players will be held May 11, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and June 1, 1-4 p.m., in the cafeteria. The cost is $125 per player.
Regular registration is set for June 29, 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in room 33. The cost is $150 per player.
