Picard wins league golf championship
It took a couple of playoff holes to do it, but Westmont's Brent Picard won the individual championships at the Blossom Valley Athletic League golf finals held last week at San Jose Municipal Golf Course.
The sophomore fired a 1-under par 71 to tie with an Oak Grove golfer for the top spot, then won it all on the second playoff hole.
Picard shot even par with a 36 on the front nine, then came back with a 1-under 35 on the back nine to force the tie.
Prospect senior Neal Valera shot a 79 to finish 10th at the league finals and Westmont junior Connor McDonald carded an 81 to finish 12th.
Westmont finished 6-8 in the Mount. Hamilton Division of the BVAL, losing 209-238 to Oak Grove in the final match of the regular season.
