Former Paul McCartney guitarist to appear in Saratoga, Los Gatos
Grammy-award winning guitarist Laurence Juber is the headline performer for a concert on May 11, at 8 p.m. in the Carriage House Theater at Montalvo (formerly Villa Montalvo), 15400 Montalvo Road in Saratoga. Joining him will be Neil Hogan.
Juber is a former guitarist with Wings, the band Paul McCartney started after leaving The Beatles. Juber won a Grammy award, while in Wings, for his lead guitar work on the hit single Coming Up. He will also appear on an upcoming ABC-TV documentary called Wingspan, which outlines the history of Wings.
Juber was named Guitarist of the Year by Fingerstyle magazine and recently came out with his ninth solo album, LJ Plays The Beatles. His work can also be heard on the scores to many major motion pictures, including The Family Man, Good Will Hunting, Pocahantas and Dirty Dancing. As a studio guitarist, he has also played with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Sarah Brightman, Pete Townshend, David Gilmore and John Mayall.
For those unable to attend Juber's Montalvo concert, he will be available on May 12, at 11 a.m., when he conducts a guitar clinic at Joplin & Sweeney Music Co., 334-B N. Santa Cruz Ave. in downtown Los Gatos.
Tickets for the Montalvo concert are $20 each. Tickets to the guitar clinic are $50 each. After the clinic, Juber will head to Palo Alto to give a free concert at 3 p.m. at Compact Disc Land, 477 University Ave.
