Art group shows documentary film
The Saratoga Contemporary Artists invites interested members of the public to attend its May 17 meeting, which, instead of featuring the usual guest artist, features a PBS documentary video titled The Wilderness Palette: Nita Engle in Michigan.
Engle studied watercolor painting in England and the United States, works as an art director and illustrator and has had art appear in many major periodicals and art books. She is a longtime member of the American Watercolor Society and teaches workshops and seminars both in the United States and abroad.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. in the Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave. Refreshments will be served. Saratoga Contemporary Artists is a community organization that promotes the arts and lets artists of different levels and styles socialize, network, review each others' works and occasionally paint together.

Clay and bamboo featured in show
Jacqueline Butts, a studio potter and ceramics instructor for more than 30 years, is this month's featured artist at Aegis Gallery of Fine Art, at 14531 Big Basin Way in the Saratoga Village.
A resident of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Butts works in stoneware and porcelain, and says her pieces reflect her taste for simplicity, harmony and balance. She often combines bamboo, which she grows behind her home studio, with clay, to add an unusual Asian flavor to her works. She has also studied the Wafu School of Ikebana--the Japanese fine art of flower-arranging.
