The National Basketball Association may be still in the process of deciding its champion for the 2000 season.

But titles have already been decided in the National Junior Basketball League, and Saratoga has clinched one of them.

An all-star team representing the Saratoga NJB won the title for third-fourth grade boys at the NJB nationals held in Fullerton in April.

Saratoga battled back from an 11-point deficit to beat Capo Dana 54-49 in the finals to win the tournament title. Ricky Bose, Angelo Caloiaro and Nick Scudellari each scored in double figures in the championship win.

The local boys opened the NJB nationals with a 42-37 win over East Fullerton. Saratoga then whipped Cypress 54-39 and edged East Riverside 62-57 to move into the finals.

Saratoga had beaten San Jose (Tri-City) 50-37, Coyote Creek 46-29 and West San Jose 54-48 in the local qualifying tournament to earn a place at Fullerton.

Members of the championship team included Bose, Steven Calderon, A. Caloiaro, Vinny Caloiaro, Ardavon Jahanian, Thomas Reynolds, N. Scudellari, Sam Scudellari, Jeffrey Solan, Steven Walker and Nick Zebb. Coaches of the squad were Paul Zebb II, Scott Peters, Frank Calderon and Henry Bose.

The trip to the nationals marked second straight year that Saratoga has qualified a team in this division for the tournament. A. Caloiaro, ArdavonJahanian and S. Scudellari were members of last year's team that won the consolation championship in the tourney.

    Girls hoop camp

The sixth annual Saratoga Skills Clinic, a summer basketball camp for girls, will return to the gym at Saratoga High School June 26-July 14. The clinic runs Monday through Friday, 1-3 p.m. each day.

The clinic, hosted by Saratoga girls varsity coach Bret Yeilding, is open to all girls who will be in grades 7-12 next year, and emphasizes individual offensive skills including passing, dribbling, ball handling and shooting.

The cost is $200, and space is limited. The clinic sold out last summer.

For more information, call Yeilding at 415.585.5883.
