    Obituaries

    Lillian Vossbrinck

Lillian Stokes Vossbrinck, a former Saratoga resident living in a Cupertino retirement home, died April 4 of heart failure at the age of 87.

Born June 23, 1911, in Brooklyn, N.Y., Vossbrinck and her family moved to Philadelphia, Pa. when she was 14. She graduated from Germantown High School and Goucher College. In 1929, she met her future husband, Bill, on a blind date. They kept in touch by correspondence, and met again in early 1936, when Bill's employer transferred him from Detroit to Philadelphia. The couple was married in August of that year. Bill's work later found the family moving to New York, Texas and then to Saratoga.

Vossbrinck's sons, David and Douglas, attended local schools and both graduated from Los Gatos High School. During this time, Vossbrinck was appointed to the Los GatosSaratoga Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees.

In 1953, Vossbrinck and her husband began an industrial supply company, which enabled them to do extensive international traveling. Their destinations included the British Isles, mainland Europe, Scandinavia, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Bali, Canada, Mexico and the west coast of South America.

Among Vossbrinck's hobbies were painting--mostly in oils--symphonic music, poetry, reading and writing letters to family and friends.

Vossbrinck was predeceased by son Douglas in 1995. Survivors include husband William J. H. Vossbrinck of Cupertino; son and daughter-in-law David and Dell Vossbrinck of Saratoga; grandchildren Diana, Craig, Eric, Justin and Ian; and great-grandson Alexander.

Memorial services have been held, with interment at Madronia Cemetery, Saratoga. Donations may be made to the Diabetes Society of Santa Clara Valley, 1165 Lincoln Ave., #300, San Jose, 95125.

    Brenda Otto

Former Saratoga resident Brenda Lee Otto died April 14 at her home in Big Lake, Alaska, following a seven-year battle with cancer. She was 43.

Otto was born Jan. 2, 1956, in Boston, Mass. In the 1970s, her family moved to Saratoga, where she graduated from Saratoga High School and West Valley College. She later attended San Diego State University. Otto worked as an administrative assistant at Dia-Nippon Printing and Dividend Development before moving to Alaska in 1990.

Among her many interests was being with her children, spending time in the great outdoors, gardening, taking care of her pets--including many dogs and cats--playing piano, ice skating and swimming. She was also a former Girl Scout.

Survivors include husband George Dodge of Alaska; children Nicole, James and Kristy of Alaska; stepson Tony of Alaska; parents Les and Millie Otto of Saratoga; brother Jeff Otto of San Francisco; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services have been held. Donations may be made in her name to Valley Health Services, 3051 E. Palmer-Wasilla Highway, Wasilla, Alaska, 99654-7234.

    Daniel Giancola

Daniel Gilbert Giancola of Saratoga died April 19 at the age of 85. He was a native of New Mexico.

He is survived by wife Elizabeth Giancola of Saratoga; son and daughter-in-law Gene Raymond Giancola and Kathleen Hennessy-Giancola of Los Gatos; son Bruce Gilbert Giancola of Saratoga; grandchildren Shelly Ann Giancola of Gilroy, Jill Lynne Giancola Ahearn of Morgan Hill and Bridget Hennessy Barket of Riverside, Conn.; grandchildren Megan, Emilee and Hannah Ahearn, all of Morgan Hill; and sister Filamina Giancola of Ohio.
