Firsthand Learning

Michelle Batra, a Saratoga High School student, does the police crawl during the Saratoga High Emergency Medical Services Challenge held on campus May 2. Representatives from the Saratoga Fire Department, American Medical Response and the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department were on hand to teach more than 100 students skills that emergency workers use daily. Students learned to find their way out of a smoke-filled room, put on a splint and douse a fire with a firehose, then performed those skills later in the day.
