    Sheriff's Report

Lost Cell Phone--May 7, 10:20 a.m. on Mt. Eden Road. The victim last saw her cell phone at home around April 1. She hadn't seen it since and didn't know where she may have lost it. She didn't know the model, make or serial number of the phone and estimated the replacement value to be about $200.

Residential Burglary--May 6, 6:15 p.m. on Dagmar Drive. The suspect entered the victim's garage and took a $350 12-inch saw, a router and tools. The victim doesn't know if he left his garage door open. There were no signs of forced entry. The suspect is unknown and at large.

Vehicle Vandalism--May 6, 4 p.m. on Herriman Avenue. While the victim's car was parked in a school parking lot, the suspect shattered the right outside mirror, threw a wet substance onto the outside of the windshield, pried open the left rear passenger window and threw garbage into the back seat. The suspect is unknown and at large.

Construction Site Burglary--May 6, 7:55 a.m. on Bohlman Road. The suspect entered a residence under construction through an unlocked sliding glass door and removed a large, heavy, stainless-steel frame that secured a 42-inch flat-screen Sony TV, worth nearly $8,000, that was mounted on the wall. The suspect stole the TV and left the steel frame on the floor.

Found Property for Destruction--May 4, 3:40 p.m. on Saratoga Avenue. The reporting party arrived at the Westside Substation with a butterfly knife that he'd found on the ground in Cupertino. The party wanted the sheriff's office to take possession of it. The officer submitted the knife for destruction.

Found Cell Phone--May 4, 2:40 p.m. on Cox Avenue. The reporting party said that he had found a cell phone in the intersection of Cox and Saratoga avenues. He called AT&T and provided information about the phone, which had a dead battery. AT&T had no record of the phone and told him to turn it over to the police. The officer checked records and found that the phone had not been registered as lost.

Burglary/Forgery--May 4, 10:45 a.m. on Fruitvale Avenue. Sometime between April 1 and April 15, the suspect entered the victim's apartment and removed the last check from her checkbook. The suspect wrote a check for $925, forged the victim's signature and cashed it on April 20. The victim, who lives in a retirement community with an on-site housekeeping service, would keep her checkbook in the top desk drawer in her bedroom. The only persons who have access to her room are staff personnel and her family members.

Exhibition of Speed--May 4, 12:30 a.m. on Prospect Road. An officer saw the suspect stop his car at the limit line on Prospect Road at Lawrence Expressway. When the light turned green, the suspect accelerated quickly, which caused the tires to lose traction. He continued to accelerate for about 30 feet, leaving skid marks on the road. The officer cited and released him at the scene.
