    Booster auction to feature wine

Silent and oral mini wine auctions will be among the featured attractions this year to benefit the sports programs at Saratoga High School and Redwood Middle School.

The Saratoga High School Sports Boosters 22nd annual auction and dinner will also feature beverages, hors d'oeuvres and shopping at silent auction tables, which will have items that range from restaurant gift certificates to fine art to college sweatshirts to plants.

Afterward, more than 40 packages, which include weekend getaways, sporting event and concert tickets, collectibles and sports memorabilia, will be up for grabs during an oral auction, which will occur during a gourmet dinner prepared by Chateau La Cresta.

The Boosters budget more than $120,000 to the high school's sports program each year, with money going toward assistant coaches' and the athletic trainer's salaries, equipment and sports facility improvements. The group has donated $6,500 to Redwood Middle School Sports Boosters each year.

The event will take place May 19, 2-8 p.m.

    Saratogan honored for stage prowess

Leslie Hernandez of Saratoga was one of four students from Harker Academy to receive an "outstanding performer" award from American Musical Theatre of San Jose (AMT). Judges evaluated the Harker students during the school's April 20 production of Oklahoma!

Twenty-eight high schools submitted their musical productions to AMT's "high school honors program," in which judges evaluated students while attending a performance.

The judges also presented Harker with an "outstanding chorus work" award, which they'd never given to any other school. The award recognized the Oklahoma! cast for singing, dancing and acting.

Winners were invited to attend AMT's Outstanding Performer Awards event on May 16.

    'Jazz Cabaret' at Saratoga HS

The Saratoga Music Boosters will present "Jazz Cabaret," an evening filled with musical performances that participants can dance to, as a benefit for the 16 music programs that the Boosters support. The evening will feature performances by the Saratoga High School dancers, jazz bands and a cappella choir, plus a special appearance by The Swing Solution.

Swing dance instruction and a catered dessert buffet will also be provided.

The performance will take place May 18, 8 p.m., in the Saratoga High gym. Tickets are $8 for students, $35 for adults and $25 for Music Booster members and can be purchased at the door.
