Brian Carroll and Hank Nothhaft are going to the Central Coast Section track and field meet this week--and they won't have to buy tickets to get in.

They each won tickets to the event by placing at the CCS South qualifying meet held last weekend in Los Gatos.

The two Saratoga track stars will be in the field for the CCS trials on May 18 at San Jose City College. The top placers there advance to the CCS finals May 23 on the same track.

Carroll finished second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles and Nothhaft was 11th in the 1,600 meters, both good for CCS berths.

Carroll was second to defending CCS champion Joe Naivalu of Fremont in the hurdles. Carroll stopped the watch at 39.39 to nail the runner-up spot at Los Gatos.

Nothhaft nailed an 11th in the 1,600 meters in 4:42.68, and that's good for a trip to the CCS trials.

The two were coming off of solid performances at the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League El Camino Division finals.

Carroll was second to Naivalu in the 300 hurdles and Nothhaft was second in the 800 meters in 2:05.5 and third in the 1,600 meters in 4:39.5.

Gabe Calebotta and Alex Lux also nailed seconds for the Falcons in the boys' finals. Calebotta was second in the high jump at 6-2 and Lux was second in the 400 meters in 53.20.

But it was freshman distance star Anne Ricketts and sophomore hurdler Andrea Graziosi who topped the list of Saratoga placers at the league meet.

Ricketts won the 1,600 meters in 5:24.0 and Graziosi romped to win the 300 hurdles in 50.38.

Saratoga soph Maggie Ricketts was second in the 3,200 meters in 12:52.5, and the Falcons were also third in the 1,600-meter relay.

Saratoga finished fifth as a team in both the boys' and girls' divisions.

In other track action, Westmont will be well represented in the distance events at CCS with Lisa Renteria, Serena Delaplace and Trevor Guina all earning berths in the trials with strong performances at the CCS South Regionals at Soquel.

Renteria was fifth in the 800 meters in 2:22.6 with Delaplace sixth in 2:30.0, and Delaplace was seventh in the 1,600 meters in 5:23.55 with Renteria 10th in 5:31.58. They'll advance to the CCS trials in each event.

Guina nailed an eighth in the 800 meters in 2:00.5 to earn a CCS spot.

Baruti Armstrong of Prospect is also CCS-bound after placing fifth in the 300 intermediate hurdles in 41.27.

Armstrong had finished third in the hurdles in 41.44 at the Blossom Valley Athletic League Santa Teresa Division finals a week earlier. He was a league champ in the 400 meters in 51.21

Westmont, meanwhile, dominated the BVAL's West Valley Division, running to championships in the boys' and girls' divisions at the finals.

Renteria ran to three individual wins and helped the Warriors to a first in the mile relay to lead the Westmont girls to the team title.

Westmont ran up 140 points to finish with Lincoln a distant second at 101.

Renteria took the mile in 5:46 with Delaplace second in 5:48 and Clair Doyle third in 5:56. Renteria was also tops in the 800 in 2:25 with Delaplace second in 2:27, and she was first in the 2-mile in 12:57.1.

Renteria, Delaplace, Steysi Erskine and Loan Hinh teamed for a first in the mile relay in 4:21.7 and Stephanie Herrera, Phung Hinh, L. Hinh and Lisako Bridgewater joined forces for a first in the 440 relay in 53.1.

Melisa Taylor supported with a second in the shot put at 30-3 and a third in the high jump at 4-6, and L. Hinh was second in the triple jump at 30-1/2, third in the 110 low hurdles in 17.1 and third in the 300 low hurdles in 51.39.

Herrera was third in the 100 in 13.0 and the 200 in 27.35, Erskine was third in the 400 in 66.7 and Katie Weathers was third in the long jump at 15-3 1/2 and the triple jump at 29-6 1/2.

Chris Ho was the lone individual champion for the Westmont boys, but the Warriors still managed to edge San Jose in the race for the team title. Westmont finished with 95 points compared to 94 for the Bulldogs.

Ho took the triple jump with a 40-2 effort to rank as the only individual champ for Westmont.

Vu Tran was second in the 100 in 11.13 and the 200 in 23.0, and he helped the Warriors to a second in the 440 relay in 45.2.

Guina added a second in the 800 in 2:04.1 and Angelo Donofrio was third in the 400 in 54.57. They both ran legs on the mile relay team that finished second.
