More than 500 students eligible for STAR money
Over 500 students from Los Gatos and Saratoga High Schools scored high enough on last year's Stanford Achievement Test to qualify for $1,000 awards under the governor's scholarship program.
This is first year that Gov. Gray Davis' initiative has been in place, to reward ninth-, 10th- and 11th-graders who score in the top 5 percent on the annual standardized test.
The test was recently administered for the third year in schools throughout the state, as part of Davis' push for greater accountability in the public school system.
