Saratogans among top state scholars
The Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University held an awards ceremony on May 7, at San Jose State University to recognize students in grades five through eight for the outstanding academics they showed their talent search. The students must score in the 97th percentile on schools' standardized tests and take additional exams considered above grade level.

Saratogan gets UC Berkeley scholarship
Saratogan Ankur Luthra was awarded the Edward Frank Kraft Scholarship at UC-Berkeley, where he studies Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. The scholarship is awarded to first-year students who achieve a 4.0 GPA. Luthra has also been admitted to the Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu honor societies at UC Berkeley.
College application workshop at SHS
Academic advisers at Saratoga High School will offer a workshop for SHS juniors on applying to private colleges and universities, a process they say is often more complex than the public school application process. The presentation will be held twice, on Tuesday, May 23, from 11:40 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. and again on May 24, from 7:55 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
SHS speech, debate team qualifies for tournament
Several SHS students qualified for the state tournament at Logan High School on April 29. They include Chelsea Purvis, Blake Howe, Jessica So, Matt Yan, Steven Chen, Andrew Nguyen and Amrit Rao.
Three students also qualified for the National Tournament in Portland, Oregon. They are Chelsea Purvis, Blake Howe and Matt Yan.
