New activity guide is available from Rec. Department
The Saratoga Recreation Department has issued its Summer 2000 Activities Guide and is taking sign-ups for summer programs. New day camps include Vasona Boating, On Your Toes Dance, Just Play Sports and Skyhawks. New classes for various ages include Boat Aerobics, Fairytale Theatre, Beginning Golf for Teens and Adults and Italian Cuisine. Guides are available at the Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave., at local coffeeshops or at the Saratoga Community Center, 19655 Allendale Ave. To have a guide mailed, call 408.868.1248 or 408.868.1249.
Community band plays annual free concert in the park
The Saratoga Community Band gives its annual free Old Fashioned Sunday Afternoon Concert in the Park on May 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. in Wildwood Park. The program includes marches, popular music, Broadway tunes and light classics. Conductor Craig Northrup will also play a saxophone solo. Those attending are welcome to bring picnics and lawn chairs.
Authors to talk about new book on relationships
Gary and Joy Lundberg, authors of I Don't Have to Make Everything All Better, a book about relationships, sign their book on May 20, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Barnes & Noble in Westgate Mall, 1600 Saratoga Ave.
The couple also will present a free two-hour seminar on the principles of their book on May 19, at 7 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 19100 Allendale Ave.
Local opera singer gives local recital
Mezzo-soprano Natalie Wilson, a native of Los Gatos, performs on May 21, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave. in Saratoga. The community is invited. Joining Wilson are tenor Corey Head, Danielle DeSwert on piano and Joanna Pinckney on viola. The repertoire includes viola songs by Brahms, excerpts from Rossini's La Cenerentola and numbers by Pauline Viardot-Garcia, Paul Bowles and Stephen Sondheim.
