Library schedules health-care forum

The Saratoga Community Library and the Friends of the Saratoga Libraries are co-sponsoring a forum titled "The Health Care Cost Explosion: Why It's So Serious and What Should Be Done," on Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m. at the library, located on the corner of Saratoga and Fruitvale avenues.

The nonpartisan forum will be an open community discussion with trained facilitators, and background materials will be provided. The forum is one in a series being held throughout the state by the Common Ground Project.

Celebration needs some puppeteers

This year's HomeTown Celebration is in need of a puppet show. The popular Pawpets puppet show will not be able to make the celebration this year, so coordinators for the HomeTown Celebration are looking for any residents or groups who might be interested in providing puppets.

Those interested in helping with the event in other ways can attend the group's next meeting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, at City Hall.

The 1998 HomeTown Celebration is scheduled for Friday, July 3, from noon to 5 p.m., at Villa Montalvo.

Any Saratoga youth groups interested in helping with parking can call Mark Biondich at 253-1407.

For information about the event and entertainment, call Marlene Duffin at 867-1410.

GGG sponsors issues forum

The Saratoga Good Government Group board of directors will hold a forum to discuss local issues on Tuesday, May 26, at 7:15 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima on Los Gatos-Saratoga Road.

Jim Ousley, chairman of the Saratoga Finance Commission, is scheduled to discuss the city's funding of its Recreation Department--and the issue of self-supporting service vs. partial recovery of costs.

The GGG also plans to discuss the status of the permit fee for nonprofit Saratoga organizations.

GGG members have also been following the expansion of the Mountain Winery and the implementation of Measure G.

For more information, contact GGG President Marlene Duffin at 867-1410.
