Sheriff's Report

Attempted Burglary--May 9, 9 p.m., on Prospect Road. A patron of a pizza restaurant attempted to enter a closed fish-and-chips restaurant through a shared bathroom. The suspect crushed the doorknob of the adjoining door by using a vice-grip tool but did not gain entry to the restaurant. A pizza-restaurant employee described the suspect to deputies.

Auto Burglary--May 8, 8:45 p.m., to May 9, noon, on Brook Glen Drive. An unknown suspect slashed the top of a convertible parked in the victim's driveway. Once inside the car, the suspect opened the trunk and removed a 12-volt battery valued at $150. Neighbors did not report seeing anything unusual, although deputies did remove fingerprints from the car.

Mail Theft--May 8, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Farwell Avenue. The victim reported that four items of mail were removed from her mailbox, including two personal checks in the amounts of $225 and $1,175.

Minor in Possession of Alcohol--May 8, 1:50 p.m., on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Deputies observed two juveniles drinking beer and tagging the wall of a shopping center. When deputies approached, the suspects fled. Deputies pursued, caught the suspects a few blocks away and searched them, turning up cigarettes and a porcelain chip from a sparkplug apparently used to break windows during auto burglaries. The suspects were charged with malicious mischief, vandalism, minor in possession of alcohol, minor in possession of tobacco, and possession of burglary tools and arrested.
