    Sheriff's Report

Grand Theft--May 14, 4:20 p.m. on Brookglen Drive. The suspect took an $800 PW50cc motorcycle that was parked to the side of a residence.

Burglary, Forgery--May 13, 3:50 p.m. on Fruitvale Avenue. The suspect stole a blank check from the victim's room at a retirement home and forged the signature. The suspect then cashed the check for $875.85 under the payee name "Salvacion Pascua" in the state of Hawaii. Further investigation showed that a newly hired caregiver at the retirement home had the same alias as the payee and had previously lived in Hawaii. The caregiver also has prior forgery and theft convictions. The sheriff's office has not contacted the caregiver, who is at large.

Found Property--May 13, 12 p.m. on Cox Avenue. Someone found an NEA MasterCard at 24-Hour Fitness a month ago and turned it in to the manager. No one claimed it, so the manager turned it in to the sheriff's office. The officer checked records and found that no one had reported the credit card as stolen. So the officer booked the credit card into the sheriff's office property room.

Lost Cell Phone--May 13, 11:40 a.m. on 4th Street. The victim said she last saw her cell phone at her home on May 5 and hadn't seen it since. She estimates her Motorola Star Tac to be worth $200.

Possession of Counterfeit Currency--May 13, 10:15 a.m. on Saratoga Avenue. A gas station clerk said that the suspect gave him a counterfeit $10 bill that day. The suspect, who was still at the gas station, had received the bill from another man to buy gas. The sheriff's office contacted the man, who said he had received the money as change over the weekend from another business.

Commercial Burglary--May 13, 10 a.m. on Shadow Mountain Drive. The victim, who works at a school construction site, stores his tools in a closet he shares with the other employees at the site. When he left the site for the weekend on May 10 at 2:30 p.m., he left the closet door unlocked because other workers were working late. The site is open on weekends for work. When the victim returned to work on May 13, he found that his property, including a $1,500 black Hitachi table saw, was gone.

Vandalism--May 10, noon on Big Basin Way. The victim said she parked her car in a lot on May 3 at about 8:30 p.m. She left the lot around midnight. About eight hours later, she noticed that someone had jumped on her car hood. There are no known suspects.

Vandalism--May 9, noon on De Sanka Avenue. A school principal called to report that an unknown person had tagged one of the school signs behind the school. The officer responded, found the sign and photographed it.

Residential Burglary--May 9, 9:15 a.m. on McCulloch Avenue. The victim reported that she had placed a staple gun in a box in her garage. A $30 75-foot orange extension cord was also in the garage. She moved the items around in February because her granddaughter needed storage space. When the victim tried to find the staple gun, she couldn't. She also couldn't find a white 25-foot extension cord or a pocketknife with a multi-tool attachment. She had no suspects, and there was no evidence of forced entry.
