Bronco coaches host baseball camp

By Dick Sparrer

Mike Cummins and Lou Lucas were a little busy last weekend.

The two are members of John Oldham's coaching staff at Santa Clara University, and they were busy trying to get the Broncos into the NCAA baseball tournament.

But the two Santa Clara coaches will have a little time on their hands when the tournament is completed, and they plan to spend that time with youth baseball players when they host the annual Santa Clara Baseball School.

The school features three sessions with instruction in fundamentals, hitting and pitching.

The first two sessions (June 24-28 and July 8-12) will offer classes in fundamentals and hitting from 9 a.m.-noon (the cost $100), and classes in pitching only from 1:30-2:30 p.m. ($50).

The third session (July 22-26) covers hitting only in two separate classes, 9-10:15 a.m. and 10:30-11:45 a.m. ($50 per class).

The school features individualized instruction in the fundamentals of hitting, sliding, base running and playing defense. Each player will receive a camp T-shirt, a written evaluation and video analysis.

Summer basketball

A summer basketball clinic hosted by Saratoga girls' varsity basketball coach Bret Yeilding will be held June 17-July 25 in the Saratoga gym.

The clinic runs from 1-3 p.m., Mondays through Thursdays, and is open to girls in the seventh-12th grades. The cost is $125 per player, and preregistration is advised since space is limited. For more information, call Yeilding at 585-5883.

Wrestling Camp

The annual Wildcat Wrestling Camp returns to Los Gatos this summer with two sessions scheduled at the high school.

A session for beginners, ages 7-13, will be held June 17-21, and a session for wrestlers with junior high experience, ages 11-15, is set for June 24-28. Camp hours are 1:30-4:30 p.m. each day, and the cost is $100 per week.

The clinic will be operated by former Los Gatos head coach Scott Downs, along with Fisher coach Jeff Garlick and past and present Los Gatos High School wrestlers.

For information, call Downs at 395-8126 or 354-2730, ext. 259.
