    Senior Tennis

    Top senior tennis players were in the field last weekend at the USA Senior League Tennis Section Championships of Northern California held at Vintage High School and the Napa Valley Country Club.

    Among 64 teams in the field are the Cupertino men's 3.5 and men's 4.0; the Los Gatos men's 3.0, women's 3.5 and women's 4.0; the San Jose men's 3.5; the Saratoga men's 4.0; and the Sunnyvale men's 3.0, women's 3.5 and women's 4.0.

    Winning teams advance to the USA League Tennis National Championships.

    Local golfer stars

    John Colyar of Saratoga, a junior at St. Francis High School, qualified for the World Junior Golf Cup, to be held this summer in Orlando, Fla.

    Colyar qualified for the tournament during competition last month at the Northern California Regionals held in Sacramento.

    Colyar, an all-league player for the Lancers as a sophomore, helped St. Francis to a 12-0 record and championship in the West Catholic Athletic League this spring.

    Golf Classic

    San Jose Christian College will host the Warrior Golf Classic on June 2 at the San Juan Oaks Golf Course in San Juan Bautista. The cost is $175 per person. The four-man, best-ball tournament features a 1 p.m. shotgun start and includes a dinner at 6 p.m.

    Saratoga Soccer

    The 2000 soccer season is coming up soon, and the Saratoga AYSO Region 27 soccer league is holding signups for players, coaches, referees and board members.

    Early registration is June 3, 9:30-1 p.m., when the registration fee will be discounted to $75 per player. Players who did not participate in the Saratoga AYSO program last year must provide a passport or notarized copy of their birth certificate.

    Parents may also register players for the Major League Soccer Camps scheduled for Aug. 7-11 and Aug. 21-25, 9 a.m.-noon, at Congress Springs Park. The camps are recommended for all players in the under-6 to under-14 programs. The cost is $100 per child for each camp ($150 for one child for both camps). Each camper receives a T-shirt.
