Saratoga nonprofit wins safety award

NonProfits United, a self-insurance group, recently presented its "Excellence in Safety Awards" to members including the Saratoga-based AJ Robinson Foundation.

NonProfits United is California's oldest self-insurance pool and recently made state history by announcing that it will return more than $1 million to eligible members over the next three years.

Chamber mixer planned for May

The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce May Business Mixer is set for Thursday, May 28, at Fresh Choice Restaurant, located in the Westgate Mall at 1600 Saratoga Ave. Robert Michaels of Fresh Choice will host the alfresco event.

Chamber business mixers are designed to bring local merchants together to meet, exchange ideas and network. A mixer is held each month at a different local business.

Beginning in May, Chamber mixers will feature a drawing to determine which business will give a five-minute presentation at the next month's mixer. The first presentation will be by Ann Marie Burger, owner of Personal Cash Management in Saratoga and a former City Councilmember.

Michael Fox elected to United Way board

Michael E. Fox Sr. was recently elected chairman of the United Way of Santa Clara County board of directors.

Fox is a Saratoga resident and president of the San Jose-based company M.E. Fox & Company Inc., distributors of Anheiser-Busch beverages.

Celebrate Saratoga! needs volunteers

The volunteer committee for this year's Celebrate Saratoga! Street Dance is looking for local merchants who want to set up business booths at which revelers can sample or purchase products and learn more about a company. Individual volunteers to help with planning and setup are also needed.The 10th annual Celebrate Saratoga! is scheduled for Sept. 26. Business owners or residents interested in volunteering can call Mike Asercion at 723-7771 or Glynis Wineinger at 873-2611.
