Anderson replaces commissioner Frank Dutro, who passed away earlier this year. Reappointed to the commission were residents Larry Fine, Robert Peepari and Beth Wyman. Terms for all four commissioners will expire in April 2002. Roofing ordinance goes to the City Council June 3 An ordinance that would toughen standards for all new roofs in Saratoga is scheduled to come before the Saratoga City Council June 3. The council read the ordinance for the first time on May 20. The ordinance would require all new roofs in Saratoga--or roof-replacement projects that involve a majority of the roof--to use Class-A material, the most fire-resistant roofing material available. Currently, homes located in the hills above Los Gatos- Saratoga and Saratoga-Sunnyvale roads must use Class-A roofing material, but under Santa Clara County regulations, homes on the valley floor are only required to use Class-C materials. Public Safety commissioners announced earlier this year that they planned to seek an ordinance for tougher standards for roofing materials in light of last year's Los Gatos "Cats" fire, which destroyed several homes and threatened the downtown area before fire crews got it under control.
