Saratoga NewsSports BriefsHoop-It-Up returns The Hoop-It-Up World Tour, the official three-on-three street basketball tour of the NBA and NBC Sports, makes its historic 10th annual return to San Jose, June 6-7. More than 7,600 street basketball players and over 38,000 spectators are expected to participate in the San Jose event, one of 44 stops on the U.S. Tour. Tournament divisions range from relaxed play in the Couch Potato division to the Top Gun division for the best competitors. Participants ages 8 and over are placed in divisions according to age, gender, height and skill level to ensure a fair and competitive environment. Entry forms are available at area Marine Corps recruiting stations or by calling the Hoop-It-Up hotline at 916-486-1370. Deadline for team entries is May 29, and the entry fee of $104 per team (or $120 in the Top Gun division) guarantees each team at least three games. Proceeds benefit local high schools. Spectator admission is free, and Hoop-It-Up action runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. Scholar Athletes The Central Coast Section has announced its Scholastic Championship Team Award winners for the spring season, and Saratoga, Prospect and Cupertino have placed among the top teams in the section. The Falcons were honored for girls' softball, boys' track and field and boys' volleyball. The Prospect badminton team also made the list along with the Cupertino gymnastics squad. Saratoga's girls posted a lofty 3.3421 grade point average to finish second to Aptos (3.4574) on the CCS list. The 'Toga boys were fourth in track and field (3.3688) and fifth in volleyball (2.8815). Prospect nailed a 3.5672 in badminton to finish fourth overall in CCS, and Cupertino posted a 3.2500 in gymnastics to finish sixth. Pop Warner Openings remain for players and cheerleaders for the fall season in the Los Gatos Pop Warner Football Association. The Los Gatos Panthers have openings for players ages 12-14 who weigh between 120 and 145 pounds. For more information, call 270-1443.
