Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsLocal artist, teacher at Gallery Saratoga During the month of June, Gallery Saratoga features recently painted watercolors by Monte Sereno resident William E. Cunningham, along with his bronze and welded steel sculptures. Cunningham is a longtime art instructor at Los Gatos and Saratoga high schools and has taught art classes to adults for many years. A reception for the artist takes place June 7 from 1 to 4 p.m. Regular hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The gallery is located at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3. Theater tryouts coming at WVC Singers, dancers and actors are encouraged to audition for Pippin, the latest production by the West Valley College Theatre Arts Department. The musical tells the whimsical coming-of-age story of a young prince who searches the world for his "Corner of the Sky." Auditions take place June 13 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Those auditioning should dress for dancing and bring a song and sheet music for the pianist. Callbacks are June 14. Performances begin July 23. Everyone cast in the musical receives three units of college credit. Call 741-2058 for more information. Sports camps open to kids The Saratoga Recreation Dept. is now accepting sign-ups for its summertime sporting day camps. Among these are T-ball and mini-basketball, both of which are for children ages 4-7 and are co-sponsored by Just Play Sports Academy. Located at Redwood Middle School's outdoor courts and lower field, both camps run Monday through Friday, June 15-19. T-ball takes place from 9 a.m. to noon; mini-basketball is 1-4 p.m. Fees are $89 for residents and $99 for non-residents. For more information, call 868-1248 or 868-1249. Classes set on women in art The Saratoga Recreation Department is accepting registration for a class titled Women in Art. The focus is on the pioneering spirit of women in the history of art. The timeline ranges from ancient history through the present day. Participants will review the different styles, techniques and subject matter within a variety of art periods.
