Saratoga students show their talent
Saratoga Elementary School will celebrate summer early when about 225 of its students perform in the school's annual talent show, Fun in the Sun. Students will don their beach-going attire and showcase their talent by singing, performing magic tricks, doing gymnastics and playing musical instruments. Six classes, as well as a group of staff members, will also perform dance routines.
The show will take place on May 30 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium. Admission is free. For more information, call the school at 408.867.3476.
High school artists display works
Saratoga High School community members will be able to admire student ceramic art, drawings, paintings and sculpture pieces, as the school will hold its second on-campus art show. The show, which will take place in the school cafeteria, will run from May 30 through June 2. The cafeteria will be open on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The school will also host an evening reception on June 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information, call the school at 408.867.3411.
AAUW names local winners
The Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women awarded its annual scholarships to female West Valley College students who study math, science or a related field and will transfer to a four-year college or university in the next year.
This year's winners are Azita Ahmadi, an electrical engineering major who plans to attend San José State University; Elizabeth Kanazawa, an environmental studies major who will transfer to UC-Santa Cruz; and Sharon Ito, who studies microbiology and will transfer to UC-Santa Cruz or UC-Davis.
At the April 20 Los Gatos -Saratoga branch meeting, Redwood Middle School eighth-grader Katherine Yip spoke about her experiences at Tech Trek, an annual math/science summer camp for seventh-grade girls that the branch had chosen Yip to attend.
